THAT is how Gerald Celente describes the U.S. and global markets in a recent interview titled “No Way Out“. Gerald Celente is the founder and owner of Trends Research a firm with a remarkable track record of identifying trends and predicting events over the past 1/4 century. A careful review of Celente’s past calls reveals he truly is a master at his craft! In his interview, Celente is talking about the global undermining of fiat currency – including (and perhaps especially the U.S. dollar.) The result? A continued decline in the average person’s standing of living, and the unsustainability of our economy and others across the “developed” world. It truly IS a “ponzi scheme” – and the greatest one ever contrived; built upon the “printing” of cheap money to sustain our lifestyle today – with the idea we will pay for all this tomorrow.
Lets turn our attention to the latest jobs report – or perhaps the best headline should have been … “Holy Crap Batman“. The early May report shows unemployment dropped from 6.7 to 6.3%… great news, eh? WAIT! Lets look just beneath the surface of that report and some other recent “numbers” – shall we?
Informed readers will know that the reason unemployment figures dropped is NOT due to growth in the economy, instead they fell because the “labor force participation rate” fell by 0.4 percentage point to 62.8 percent in April. Simply put, when people drop out of the workforce, they are not counted as unemployed!
Now, BEFORE your head explodes, get this: In real terms is 92.5 MILLION Americans are currently “out” of the labor force (an increase of almost ONE MILLION in just the past month.) Consider what the unemployment rate would be if we factored these folks in and reported the REAL numbers (review the “U6” number if you wish to see something CLOSER to the real unemployment number.
My thought – If it were not for food stamps (which ONE in SIX are now using) and a burgeoning welfare society -I contend it would look like 1933 in our nation with food lines and highly visible signs of mass poverty.
Ask yourself now… HOW LONG can this ponzi scheme go on? HOW LONG can our society support a nation where more and more folks are drawing upon its resources and fewer are contributing? No nation in the history of civilization has fallen so quickly from that of a lender nation (which we were post-WWII) to what the world see’s as the greatest debtor nation in history – remember its NOT “just” the nearly 18 TRILLION we owe, its the UNFUNDED entitlements (now OVER 100 TRILLION DOLLARS) that we owe – much of it to 76 MILLION baby-boomers who are turning 65 at the rate of TEN THOUSAND each day!
And if you look at our production numbers –
First quarter reports on the economy are now in. We learned that the economy grew by a “robust” ZERO POINT ONE PERCENT – yup 0.1% – you DID read that correctly. Oh, and what did the stock market do? It hit a RECORD HIGH shortly after?!
Does ANY of this data make sense to you in a time of “recovery”??
I ask myself almost daily… is ANYONE THINKING ABOUT THIS STUFF??
How much longer can the markets continue to ignore the “fundamentals”? As I write this the Dow is near a record high – and seems to keep setting highs every few weeks. WHEN the fundamentals “catch up” with markets, will they crash – Or, will the DOLLARS VALUE simply decline to match the current “valuation” of the major stock market indices? In other words – will the DOW keep rising as it represents the value of companies in terms of an increasingly weaker dollar? (Personally, I see a steep decline coming – but I’m NOT an analyst and hold NO “degrees” or “certifications” in the financial realm.)
These events ARE impacting many “average Americans” – and will impact more in the coming months and years.
It is early Sunday morning, May 4. I’m enjoying a french toast breakfast… a personal favorite! As I sit in the Family Diner (highly recommended) in Wheatland, Wyoming and write this, I’m listening to some guy at the next table pitch an “MLM” (network marketing deal) that tugs at many American’s hearts – a “get well quick” program that purports to make you lose weight, gain energy – and… make lots of money as well. And money is what most folks want these days – and quick… so when presented with a “deal” like this, many jump in and never ask the important questions –
Is the product being offered ETHICAL, MORAL, and does it provide real VALUE to the end-user.
I maintain THAT is THE premise upon which ALL successful business MUST be done to insure long term profitability. Do you agree?
Consider the first hardware store (or home goods, or whatever store) you ever visited, did you buy something? If you did, why did you? I bet it was because you NEEDED it and saw VALUE in the price they were charging for it. Why would *any* purchase be judged by any different standard?
I just connected with two brothers who were at the table next to me with the “shark” pitching his “wellness deal”, their names are Mike and Bob. Bob made an interesting observation, in meetings like the one I’m describing, many folks don’t want to say ‘no’ – especially if it is a person with whom they have a relationship. However, when the “auto-ship” (the monthly repeat shipment of “stuff” they didn’t want in the first place) hits next month, will they continue? If there is little value or need for the product or service, the clearly the answer is “no” – and there goes ANY chance at sustained profits or income. Incidentally, neither brother took his bait and appreciated my suggestion that they research the ingredients in the “miracle powder” they were shown to see if they’r even SAFE – and search Amazon for a similar (or identical) product that may be available for 1/2 the price… that’s assuming they even WANT the product!
The economy will drive behavior
Unfortunately, as our economy continues its slide, more and more will fall prey to such offers – and the abundance of “junk” MLM (get rich quick) programs will overshadow the few legitimate ventures that lend themselves to a “team building” or networking approach. As an RV’er who is WAY too young to retire, I am constantly seeking viable, ethical, and moral ways to earn income – without having to be at a permanent location. I strongly believe “residual” and “leverage” are great ways to earn – but again, ethics, morals and VALUE must reign supreme before one can expect to develop a sustained long term income.
A personal perspective
I am available to share my own experiences (and levels of preparation) with you the reader – along with other approaches towards generating income in the new economy in which *some* are thriving – feel free to reach out to me on Skype at alan.sills
For me, as a full time RV’er, the changes in our economy have forced me to rethink LOTS of things – but one thing I know is despite the economic data cited above, there is incredible opportunity for those who are willing to learn and take action. Yet, many will remain “stuck”. Perhaps it results from a change in the way we think and respond to our environment.
Consider this piece I recently received in my email – it makes an interesting comment upon our ability to THINK and REASON as Americans from 1957 until 2013…
(This is from a friend whom I have a LOT of respect for… – read it and then be sure to continue with this post as I have a video following it)
1957 vs. 2014
Jack goes duck hunting before school and th
en pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck’s gun rack.
1957 – Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack’s shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack.
2014- School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers.
Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.
1957 – Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.
2014 – Police called and SWAT team arrives — they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are both charged with assault and both expelled even though Johnny started it.
Jeffrey will not sit still in class; he disrupts other students.
1957 – Jeffrey sent to the Principal’s office and given a good paddling by the Principal. He then returns to class, sits still, and does not disrupt class again.
2014 – Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. He becomes a zombie. He is then tested for ADD. The family gets extra money (SSI) from the government because Jeffrey has a disability.
Billy breaks a window in his neighbor’s car and his dad gives him a whipping with his belt.
1957 – Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman.
2014 – Billy’s dad is arrested for child abuse, Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. The state psychologist is told by Billy’s sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy’s mom has an affair with the psychologist.
Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.
1957 – Mark shares his aspirin with the Principal out on the smoking dock.
2014 – The police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations. His car is then searched for drugs and weapons.
Pedro fails high school English.
1957 – Pedro goes to summer school, passes English, and goes to college.
2014 – Pedro’s cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro’s English teacher. English is then banned from core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up at minimum wage for a living because he cannot speak English.
Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle, and blows up a red ant bed.
1957 – Ants die.
2014- ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. The FBI investigates his parents–and all siblings are removed from their home and all computers are confiscated. Johnny’s dad is placed on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.
Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.
1957 – In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.
2014 – Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.
This should hit every email inbox to show how stupid we have become!
GOD BLESS AMERICA (AND GOD HELP US!)
Ok… well, that was fun, eh? I know I see it everyday (and many of my readers do as well). Kinda scary, eh? Before I share my thoughts via video, I wanted to link you to a post called “Total Collapse” by John Embry. As you read the intro, you’ll see who he is and why his info is worth knowing about.
